Emelie Ekman about her interior design style, kids rooms and the collaboration with Piffa
Emelie Ekman, known for her Instagram account 34kvadrat, has long inspired with her elegant and thoughtful interior design style. Recently, she began a collaboration with Piffa to create the collection "34kvadrat", a romantic series designed to transform kids rooms into dreamy and timeless spaces.
Interior style and inspiration
Emelie's interior design style is characterized by a harmonious mix of modern lines and soft, natural tones. She is inspired by Scandinavian minimalism and strives to create homes that feel both inviting and functional. "I want our home to be a haven for both young and old. For me, interior design is about creating spaces where the whole family thrives," says Emelie.
The kids rooms in Emelie's home
When it comes to kids rooms, Emelie has placed great emphasis on creating spaces that both stimulate and calm. Her daughter Sigrid has two rooms to choose from for play and rest. "I think it's important that my kids rooms reflect their personalities, while giving them a place where they can unwind and feel safe," she explains. With a soft color palette and thoughtful details, Emelie creates a coherent and personal atmosphere that can be easily adapted as the children grow.
"The collaboration with Piffa and the collection "34kvadrat"
Emelie's interest in Piffa's products was piqued early on, but she felt that many of the patterns and colors were a little too tough for her style. "I loved Piffa's idea of creating unique and beautiful details for children's rooms, but I wanted something more romantic and timeless for my home," says Emelie. She therefore got in touch and asked if Piffa could produce a small flower pattern for a softer and more romantic feel. "When they instead asked if I wanted to be involved in creating the collection myself, I was incredibly flattered and happy. It felt like a perfect opportunity to realize my vision."
In the collection, Emelie has combined her aesthetic sense with soft, small-scale floral patterns and natural color tones, perfectly suited for children's rooms that are both playful and stylish. "I wanted to create a collection that could accompany children as they grow and that parents could feel proud to have in their homes," says Emelie of her vision for the collaboration.
Tips for parents who want to create beautiful and functional kids rooms
Emelie recommends investing in neutral basic colors and then adding personal details that reflect the child's interests. "Small details can make a big difference. A nice personal poster or new duvet covers and maybe a bed canopy can really lift a room and create that cozy feeling," she advises. In a kids room where needs and tastes develop quickly, I think it is perfect to use second-hand furniture that can easily be adapted and spruced up as the children's interests and needs change.
Through the collection "34kvadrat", Emelie hopes to inspire parents to create kids rooms that are both beautiful and functional, where every detail is carefully selected to promote a harmonious and inspiring environment for the children. "There is something special about creating a room where both children and adults feel at home. That is the feeling I want to convey with this collection."
The most fundamental thing when decorating a kids room is of course to create an environment that attracts play and learning, but also relaxation and rest. The children's perspective should of course be in focus - get down on the floor and start from their height. Do not hang the paintings too high, make sure that the children can reach their things themselves and control the lighting. Based on your child, his interests and age - toys and gadgets that are used the most should of course be the most easily accessible. An old tried and true method that actually works is also to rotate among the toys to make them more interesting, according to season but also interest. Many children tend to tire quickly. But by picking up and taking away toys, old toys can be given new life.
In kids rooms where everything has its place, it becomes easier to keep order and easier to find what you are looking for - something that the children appreciate not least. To make it easy for both us adults and children to pick out and clean away toys, we have invested in Ikea's Trofast series at our home - storage at the children's height and drawers without the risk of crushing that are easy for our three-year-old to use himself. We also have a baby at home who has started to crawl. In order not to risk her reaching the smallest toys such as small beads and Lego pieces, we store them at a higher height in Ikea's Trofast wall-mounted shelf.
With Piffa's decals on these plastic boxes, we've also got stylish hidden storage so that we can in no time conjure up plastic toys in various colors and create peace and harmony when it's time to unwind and relax. I love that these are easy to replace according to the children's interests and age, which means that the furniture will be adaptable and feel current for many years to come. In addition to Trofast, we also have hidden storage in poufs, closed wardrobes and stackable boxes.
